NBPA Special Victims Symposium Day Pass Registration

Our Special Victims Symposium will be held at the host hotel, The Hotel at the University of Maryland, on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

The NBPA is offering a ONE DAY PASS to attend the Special Victims Symposium on Thursday, July 24, 2025.

Note: Admission to the Special Victims Symposium is included in the full conference registration.

Formerly known as the Domestic Violence & Sexual Assault Forum, the Special Victims Symposium (SVS) now spans the full spectrum of crimes that disproportionately impact vulnerable populations—particularly within Black communities. While our roots lie in domestic violence and sexual assault advocacy, the program has evolved to address the interwoven realities of human trafficking, child and elder abuse, abuse of disabled persons, hate crimes, animal cruelty, and related forms of victimization.

Hosted each year as a focused one-day event during our week-long National Black Prosecutors Association Conference, the SVS convenes prosecutors, investigators, service providers, and survivor-leaders for a day of candid dialogue, practical training, and collaboration. Attendees begin with an inspiring Survivor-Speaker Breakfast, followed by a slate of continuing legal education (CLE) presentations designed to deepen both legal acumen and cultural competency when serving special-victim populations.

CLE Session Highlights:

  • Breakfast keynote with survivor-advocate Dr. Mildred Muhammad on turning lived experience into courtroom insight
  • The overlap between domestic violence and animal cruelty—and how recognizing it can strengthen prosecutions
  • Building and sustaining a local hate-crimes task force through true multi-agency collaboration
  • Child-centered justice: leveraging social-services records to fortify child-abuse cases
  • Resilience and mental-health strategies tailored for Black prosecutors, from self-care to peer support

Registration Options:

  • SVS Day-Pass – $150: Includes Survivor Speaker Breakfast, all SVS sessions, CLE materials, and refreshments. The SVS program takes place from 8:00am – 4:00pm on Thursday, July 24th.
  • Thursday Evening Gala – $150 (per ticket): We invite you to stay for our evening gala and join us as we celebrate our award recipients The Awards Gala begins at 7:00pm, after the conclusion of the SVS program. Attire is formal.

Important: If you have already purchased a full-week conference registration, do NOT buy the Day-Pass, as SVS access is already included – your gala ticket is also included in the full-week conference registration. Gala tickets are not included in the Day-Pass and must be purchased separately.
